Fort Myers Beach is a popular destination located on Estero Island, a seven-mile-long barrier island on the Gulf Coast of Florida. The town is situated in Lee County and is a part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city boasts pristine white sand beaches, azure waters, and an array of outdoor activities, making it an ideal spot for travelers. The area was once inhabited by the Calusa Indians, who used the island for fishing and hunting. Later, Spanish explorers arrived in the area in the 16th century but encountered resistance from the Calusa and ultimately left. In the late 1800s, Fort Myers Beach was established as a military stronghold and was later used as a fishing village. It wasn't until the 1920s that tourism began to take off in the area, and the first bridge connecting Fort Myers Beach to the mainland was built. Today, Fort Myers Beach is a bustling vacation destination with an array of activities for travelers. Visitors can indulge in water sports like kayaking, paddleboarding, and parasailing or opt for a more relaxing experience with sunset dolphin watching cruises. The area is also home to the Mound House, a historic museum that provides insight into the area's indigenous people and more modern settlers. Additionally, the city boasts an array of waterfront restaurants and bars, many of which offer live music and stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico.
