Buena Vista is a quaint town located in the central Colorado Rockies, surrounded by majestic mountains and stunning scenery. The town is located in Chaffee County and has a population of approximately 2,800 people. Buena Vista was founded in 1880 as a mining town and was named after the famous Mexican battle of Buena Vista during the Mexican-American war. Breathtaking views of the Collegiate Peaks, hot springs, river rafting, and kayaking are the main attractions of the town. Mount Princeton, Mount Yale, Mount Harvard, and Mount Columbia are the four highest peaks that are visible from Buena Vista, and they offer excellent opportunities for hiking and mountaineering. The town is also situated next to the Arkansas River, which is famous for its rapids that range from class 1 to class 5, and is a popular destination for river rafting and kayaking. In terms of history, Buena Vista has much to offer, including the St. Elmo Historic District, the Buena Vista Heritage Museum, and the Buena Vista Cemetery. In the late 1800s, St. Elmo was a thriving mining town with over 2,000 residents, but it was deserted in the early 1900s. The Buena Vista Heritage Museum contains artifacts and exhibits that showcase the history of the town and its mining heritage, and the Buena Vista Cemetery, which was established in 1880, contains the graves of many early pioneers and settlers.
