Williams, Arizona, is a small city located in Coconino County, in the northern part of the state. It is known as the "Gateway to the Grand Canyon," as it is the last town travelers pass through before reaching the southern rim of the Grand Canyon National Park, which is a popular destination for both domestic and international travelers. Founded in 1881, Williams has a rich history as a mining town and a railroad hub, serving as a key stop on the Santa Fe Railroad's main line between Chicago and Los Angeles. Visitors can get a taste of the city's history with a stroll along the Historic Route 66, which runs through Williams and offers a glimpse into the past with its classic diners, neon signs and quirky souvenir shops. In addition to its historical attractions, Williams offers plenty of modern amenities, including a wide variety of dining, shopping and entertainment options. Visitors can enjoy live music and entertainment at the historic Grand Canyon Railway Hotel, which also offers train rides to the Grand Canyon from its station in Williams. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do in the surrounding Kaibab National Forest, which offers hiking, biking and camping opportunities.
