Show Low, Arizona is a charming city located in Navajo County with a population of just over 10,000 residents. The city is situated in the White Mountains region of Arizona and is named after a legendary poker game played between two early settlers, Corydon Cooley and Marion Clark. The game was played to determine who would stay in the area and who would leave after both felt it was too crowded. Clark famously declared "If you can show low, you win." Cooley then showed his two of clubs, the lowest possible card, and won the game and the area. Show Low offers a variety of outdoor activities for visitors to enjoy. The city is surrounded by the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, which offers hiking, camping, mountain biking, and fishing opportunities. The Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area is a popular destination for boating and picnicking. In the winter, visitors can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling at the Sunrise Ski Resort. For history enthusiasts, Show Low offers a unique opportunity to learn about the region's Native American and pioneer heritage. The Show Low Historical Society Museum features exhibits on local Native American tribes and early pioneer settlers, while the nearby Hon-Dah Cultural Center and Museum provides a deeper look into the history and traditions of the White Mountain Apache Tribe. In addition to outdoor activities and historical sites, Show Low has a lively arts and culture scene. The city is home to the Show Low Film Festival, which showcases independent films from around the world. The Branded Hearts Distillery offers tours and tastings of their locally-crafted spirits, and the Show Low Main Street Farmers Market offers fresh produce and handcrafted goods from local vendors.
