Alicante is a beautiful port city located in the Valencian Community of Spain. The current city is built on the site of the ancient Iberian settlement of Akra Leuka, which was founded by the Greeks in the 4th century BC. Throughout its rich history, Alicante has been ruled by many powerful civilizations, including the Romans, Visigoths, and Moors, leading to an abundance of historical landmarks such as the Castle of Santa Barbara and the nearby archaeological site of Lucentum. The colorful houses and streets lined with palm trees provide a lively atmosphere that makes Alicante a popular destination for tourists. The city boasts stunning beaches, such as Postiguet Beach, which is located right in the heart of the city. Another must-visit spot is Esplanada d'Espanya, a palm-lined promenade that stretches alongside the Mediterranean. Alicante's thriving nightlife scene is another reason why it's a popular destination, with an abundance of bars, clubs, and restaurants. Each summer, Alicante hosts "Hogueras de San Juan," a festival that is known for its huge bonfires, fireworks, and street parties.
