The Grotto
The Grotto, also known as the National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother, is a peaceful Catholic sanctuary situated in Portland, Oregon. Father Ambrose Mayer, a Canadian priest, founded the Grotto in 1924. The sanctuary, located on a 62-acre cliff, offers a serene atmosphere and beautiful gardens. Visitors can spend time exploring the Meditation Garden and Peace Garden, adorned with different flowers and sculptures. The sanctuary also has an outdoor path for Stations of the Cross, a gift shop, and a chapel.
