Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is a Spanish mission located in San Luis Obispo, California. It was founded by Father Junipero Serra in 1772 and is one of the 21 California missions that played a significant role in California's early history. The mission served as a center for religious, social, and economic activity in the area and was a hub for the local Chumash Indian population. Today, visitors can tour the mission's beautiful grounds, which include a museum, chapel, and gardens. The mission is also famous for its annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony, which is held in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi.
